Westmeath Farmhouse
A delightful contemporary extension to a Victorian farmhouse situated in the heart of the Irish countryside. The clients’ desired a large modern addition to the traditional farmhouse that would meet the requirements of their growing family whilst respecting the character of the existing building and surrounding context.
The appearance of the single storey extension takes its cue from the farmhouse and adjacent outhouse buildings by mirroring the traditional pitched roof form but with sharper edges and details. The crisp white silicone render and natural zinc standing seam roof subtly contrast but do not impose on the more rustic rough render and slate of the original house. Whilst providing a considerable amount of extra floor area the extension does not dominate and is barely visible looking from the road.
