A strong retail identity starts with a clear understanding of what makes a brand recognisable beyond its logo: its product, customer, pace, attitude and the feeling it wants people to take away.

From there, we develop a coherent spatial language through materials, lighting, display, colour, proportion and circulation. The aim is not to apply branding as decoration, but to make the brand tangible in the way people move through the space, encounter the products and spend time there.

For LUAH, that meant creating environments that feel expressive, accessible and built for everyday wear, consistent with a jewellery brand designed to be lived in, rather than kept for special occasions.

A retail space needs to work before a customer crosses the threshold. The frontage, lighting and first display moments should create a clear invitation from the street or mall, while giving people an immediate sense of what the brand is about.

Once inside, the space needs to reward curiosity. We consider how customers move, where they pause, what they see first and how easily they can engage with the product. For jewellery, that means balancing a strong visual presence with close-up moments that make trying, styling and discovering pieces feel natural.

At LUAH’s K11 pop-up, the design was conceived as a temporary installation but drew enough footfall to secure an extension. That is the test of effective retail design: it draws attention, but also gives people a reason to stay.

The design should translate a brand’s character into a physical experience.

What should customers notice first? How should the products be discovered? What level of energy, intimacy or flexibility does the brand need? The answers inform every decision, from the organisation of the space to the materials that customers touch and the fixtures that hold the product.

For a growing brand such as LUAH, this has meant developing spaces that support retail, content, community and day-to-day operations without losing the clarity of the customer experience. Its Shin Hing Street flagship HQ was designed as a multi-function retail space and the creative and commercial home of the label.

ŌDDD works closely with clients to establish the brand principles that must carry across locations, then adapts them to the realities of each site, whether that means a different footprints, programmes, approval processes or budgets.

For LUAH, it means keeping the brand language coherent across each formats, from pop-ups and shopping-centre stores to its flagship HQ.

Consistency comes not from repeating the same layout, but from understanding the brand well enough to make the right decisions in every new context.

LUAH's flagship HQ sits at a trendy location in Central Hong Kong, Shin Hing Street.

LUAH came to ŌDDD with a concept design already done, but needed the team to step in to resolve a budget 40% over target and a programme that was falling behind.

The team developed the concept and design, reworking the specification and delivery strategy to bring the project back within budget and programme, without losing the essence of what was already an excellent design concept.

With LUAH, that partnership has grown from an initial Hong Kong pop-up into a wider retail rollout spanning multiple cities, including support for its expansion into Singapore and Shanghai.

Each project is treated as part of a wider brand system, but also as an individual site with its own constraints. and each was delivered on time and on budget.

When LUAH secured a unit at Hysan Place, the challenge put to ŌDDD was straightforward: can you get it done within budget, and can you get us open in four weeks for Golden Week?

ŌDDD moved quickly to establish a cost-effective design solution that helped reduce what could have been a lengthy construction programme.

The retail design was completed in the first week, followed by the submission process. Approval came the following week, allowing the team to maintain momentum through construction and installation. LUAH opened at Hysan Place in October 2025, meeting the fixed Golden Week deadline.

A successful mall store needs to attract attention from the circulation route, communicate the brand quickly and make it easy for customers to step in, browse and engage with the product.

For LUAH at K11 and Hysan Place, ŌDDD designed the spaces to stand out in busy, high-footfall environments while maintaining a clear and accessible customer journey. Product display, lighting and the storefront were carefully considered to create a strong first impression.

The design also had to meet the practical demands of shopping-centre retail, including fixed ceiling heights and shared building services. By incorporating submissions and approvals into the programme from day one, both projects progressed efficiently from design through to opening.

ŌDDD's first commission for LUAH was a pop-up retail design and build at K11 in Tsim Sha Tsui, launched in July 2025.

Designed to make an impact within a high-footfall retail environment, the pop-up performed well and secured approval from K11 for a lease extension. It also established the foundation for a wider partnership with LUAH, including the successful delivery of its permanent Hysan Place store in Causeway Bay.

Look for a team with experience across retail formats. A designer who has delivered pop-ups, permanent mall units and flagships will understand that each requires a different approach.

Delivery capability matters too: managing landlord submissions, subcontractors, procurement and factory lead times alongside the design process.

For a fast-growing retailer such as LUAH, every project operated to a tight programme, so disciplined coordination was as important as the design itself.
